Objectives
Meta Data analysis.
On the basis of the data bases at different levels and the Edora typology, we will identify the main drivers of smart development in various types of rural areas in the EU. We will specially focus about the selected countries and identify data concerning social and economic facts and figures. This WP will also analyze the prerequisites for smart rural development in the various types of rural and peri-urban areas with respect to the occurrence of critical development and growth factors.
Description of work
  • 1. Theoretical analysis on the concept of smart development with special focus on its implications in regions of different densities and factor and resource endowments.
  • 2. Micro analysis at local levels of smart development and its driving forces in the two Swedish case-study regions, based on the detailed geocoded microdata that the JIBS team has access to.
  • 3. Based on the results of the Swedish case-studies and on the European and national data bases that the TASTE team together possesses a meta-analysis of factors behind smart development in rural regions of different types in the EU.
  • 4. A concluding analysis of the conditions for smart development in various types of European rural areas.
Deliverables
  • 1.1. Report on the concept of smart development, focusing on its theoretical foundations, its general preconditions and various region types’ potential to implement smart development.
  • 1.2. Report on smart development and its driving forces in various types of rural areas in the two Swedish case-study regions.
  • 1.3. Report containing a meta-analysis of smart development in various types of rural regions, its driving forces, and conclusions.
Milestones and expected result
  • M1: Increased knowledge and understanding of the policy concept of smart development and its component parts.
  • M2: Analysis of smart development and its determinants at micro level.
  • M3: Meta-analysis of smart development and its prerequisites in rural regions across the EU.
